Tragedy on Everest

Apr 18, 2014

Norbu Tenzing

The Solu Khumbu and the world are still reeling from the deadliest climbing disaster on Everest in modern history – an early morning avalanche Friday that killed 13 Sherpas, and left three more missing. AHF extends our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the brave men who lost their lives preparing a route through the treacherous Khumbu Icefall for their clients. This tragedy is a reminder that while climbing Everest has become more popular over the last 60 years, Sherpas continue to bear much of the risk involved.

Alongside the late great Sir Edmund Hillary, AHF has worked closely with the Sherpa community for over 30 years and we are devastated by this news. In response, we have created the AHF Sherpa Family Fund to support the families and educate the children left behind. 100% of donations will go directly to help the families of the deceased.

Please make a donation and select “Sherpa Family Fund” when directing your gift. Or call us at 415.288.7245

Thank you for your support and concern.
